Stretch out and scan the scenery from the comfort of a private vehicle.

    Rongai Gate to Simba Camp
Nalemoru Gate - Simba Camp 8km
Follow a small path through farmland from the village of Nalemoru (1950m, or 6397 ft). Travel though pine forest mostly in the montane forest habitat, with a gentle but consistent incline. Keep a look out for the Colobus monkeys of the area with their long white hair that looks like a cape. Camp for the night at the edge of the moorland zone (2750m, or 87632ft), from here the forest thins considerably and there's a great, wide view of the plains of Kenya. (Breakfast,Dinner,Lunch)

  • DAY 3 Simba Camp/Kikelelwa Camp

Continue ascending with superb views of the eastern ice fields.

    Simba Camp to Kikelewa Camp
Simba Camp - Kikelelwa Camp 10km
Leave from Simba Camp in the morning with a steady ascent that's approximately 8km (6mi) from Kikelewa Camp. Arrive at the second cave around lunchtime and take in the views of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields. After lunch, hike for 3-5 hours across the moorland off the main trail heading towards the peaks of Mawenzi. Camp for the night in the sheltered valley of the Kikelewa Camp. (Breakfast,Dinner,Lunch)

  • DAY 4 Kikelelwa Camp/Mawenzi Tarn Camp

Ascend through grassy slopes up to an area with majestic views.

Kikelelwa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp
Kikelelwa Camp - Mawenzi Tarn Camp 3km
Climb the steep trail towards the Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4303m, or 14115 ft) through the wilderness and semi-desert habitat. Don't listen to that "don't look down" rule, the view behind is superb so make sure you enjoy it. Exit the vegetation zone shortly before reaching camp in the afternoon. Take a rest or explore the area around camp to help acclimate. (Lunch,Dinner,Breakfast)

  • DAY 5 Mawenzi Tarn Camp/Kibo Huts

Hike slowly through the famous "saddle" between the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Huts Camp
Mawenzi Tarn Camp - Kibo Huts 8-9km
Cross the lunar desert of the 'Saddle' between Mawenzi and Kibo (4700m, or 15486 ft) at the bottom of the Kibo crater wall. Spend the remainder of the day resting in preparation for the final ascent before a very early start. (Breakfast,Dinner,Lunch)

  • DAY 6 Kibo Huts/Horombo Huts

Night hike to the Summit via Gillman's Point. Appreciate the beautiful sunrise before descending to Horombo Hut Camp.

    Kibo Huts Camp to Summit
    Kibo Huts - Uhuru 28km
Start the final and, by far, the steepest and most demanding part of the climb by torchlight around 12:00. Go very slowly in the darkness on a switchback trail through loose volcanic scree to reach the crater rim at Gillman's Point (5685m, or 18651 ft). Rest there for a short time to enjoy the spectacular sunrise over Mawenzi. If you are still feeling strong, make the two hour round trip to Uhuru Peak (5895m, or 19340 ft) ), passing close to the spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area. Descend to Kibo (4720m, or 15486 ft), which is surprisingly fast, and after some refreshment continue the descent to reach our final campsite at Horombo (3720m, or 12204 ft ).

    Summit to Horombo Hut
    Uhuru - Horombo Huts 15km
Take a quick moment to enjoy the view and celebrate a successful climb before starting the descent to Horombo Hut. Enjoy a well-deserved rest during the last night on the mountain. (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner)

  • DAY 7 Horombo Huts/Marangu

Continue the descent through forested lower slopes to Moshi.

Continue down through moorland to Mandara Hut (2770m), the first stopping place on the Marangu route. Descend through lovely lush forest on a good path to the National Park gate at Marangu (1879m). Transfer to hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved night in relative comfort.

    Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
Horombo Huts - Marangu Gate 20km Continue the descent to the Marangu Gate, passing by the Mandara escarpment on the way. Enjoy the easier descent and hikers who successfully reached Uhuru Peak will receive a summit certificate.

  • TRIP DETAILS

If you have booked this trip or are curious about all of the details, you can download this trip's information as a PDF.

Please ensure that you print a final copy of your Trip Details to review a couple of days prior to travel, in case there have been changes that affect your plans.

  2. This programme is operated on a Coach tour. Maximum Group size is 12 passengers, at an average there are 10 passengers travelling on this tour.

  3. Itinerary descriptions are guaranteed with the exception of unforeseen conditions which include, but are not limited to, road closures due to weather, acts of God, safety concerns, changes to highway legal restrictions, and acts by third parties beyond the control of Service Provider.

  4. There is no refund for any non-utilization of any services.

  5. All holiday prices are subject to Govt. Service Tax of 5% payable to Govt of India.

  6. At this point of time no services are confirmed and the same is subject to availability.

  10. Please note: passengers should be aware that, for any reason, they are unable to make the trek to the summit, then any additional cost will be at their own expense.

  11. LUGGAGE COMPLICATIONS FLYING INTO KILIMANJARO: It occasionally happens that luggage on international flights into Kilimanjaro does not arrive. Please be aware that this may happen, especially if you have a tight connection, are flying with different airlines with a connection, have a last minute flight change or re-route, or fly from or connect through another African centre. Please be prepared and keep all important documentation and valuables on your person. As well we recommend a change of clothes in your hand luggage. If unfortunately this does happen, and your luggage does not arrive, you should be entitled to a limited initial compensation from your airline. In Kilimanjaro, the arrival of lost luggage normally takes between 48 and 72 hours after the initial plane's arrival. The airlines technically should be responsible to forward your luggage to you, to your hotel or elsewhere in Tanzania. You may find that you will be needed to start your trek and you still have not received your luggage. Considering that the customer service standards in Tanzania are different from home, and that we find that the airlines are not always pro-active in helping luggage in its care be reunited with its owner, it is recommended that you purchase or hire locally the needed items, and speak to your G Adventures representative at your hotel to persist with your airline to retrieve your luggage. Once your luggage is retrieved, it should be able to be forwarded to you - depending where you are. Please note that any costs that you may incur for luggage retrieval or sending luggage are not the responsibility of G Adventures, though we will always strive to assist you in any way possible. You should always keep all receipts and documentation, and contact your airline or insurance provider for reimbursement.

Please wait as we update your request.
