  • DAY 2 Beijing

    Enjoy a guided tour of the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. Partake in an included tea art lesson with a traditional tea ceremony.

    Discover the history of the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, then enjoy a traditional tea ceremony and tea art lesson, where you learn about the benefits of drinking tea and how best to taste it.

    Forbidden City (Beijing)
    Your city guide will steer around crowds and help to make the most of a visit to the Forbidden City.

    Tiananmen Square Guided Tour (Beijing)
    Explore one of the world's largest public squares, home to the Monument to the People's Heroes and the Great Hall of the People. Also located in the square is the National Museum of China with artifacts such as relics from the First Opium War of 1840.

    Tea Art Lesson (Beijing)
    Learn the ancient art of traditional Chinese tea making. Prepare for a tea ceremony, learn to distinguish between different types of tea, and taste many flavours. (Breakfast)

  • DAY 3 Beijing/Huairou

    Transfer to Mutianyu. Trek along the Great Wall to Xizazi village for the night. Enjoy an included dumpling cooking class.

    Stretch out and scan the scenery from the comfort of a private ride.

    Great Wall Trek (Huairou 5h-6h Morning 12km)
    Mutianyu to Jiankou
    Approximate hiking distance: 12km/7.5 mi
    Highest altitude - 1,015m/3,330 ft

    Dumpling Cooking Class (Huairou)
    Dumplings are a staple food across China. Learn how to make these delicious snacks before eating them for dinner. (Breakfast,Dinner,Lunch)

  • DAY 4 Huairou/Gubeikou

    Trek along the Great Wall to Jiankou. This is one of the toughest days of hiking, as parts of the Wall are broken up and loose and there are several ascents and descents. Transfer to Gubeikou for the night.

    Approximate hiking distance: 5.5km/3.4 mi
    Highest altitude - 870m/2,854 ft

    Stretch out and scan the scenery from the comfort of a private vehicle. (Dinner,Breakfast,Lunch)

  • DAY 5 Gubeikou

    In the morning, stop for a tai chi lesson to stretch your legs before the hike. Trek around Gubeikou and take in two sections of the Wall before heading to a farmer's village for the night.

    Tai Chi Lesson (Morning)
    Learn the ancient Chinese practise of tai chi. There are 108 moves in total, with names such as "Carry Tiger to Mountain", but a lesson should be able to teach you the basics of this traditional technique.

    Great Wall Trek: Gubeikou (Gubeikou 6-7km)
    Hiking to Gubeikou, cross over Wohu Pass, where the watchtowers are ruined and the Wall mostly consists of broken bricks. Continuing along the Wall is Panlongshan, where many battles were fought. Before returning to Gubeikou, pass over the "Crouching Tiger" and "Sleeping Dragon" sections of the Wall. (Breakfast,Dinner,Lunch)

  • DAY 6 Gubeikou/Jinshanling

    Continue along the Great Wall to Jinshanling, where the restoration of the Wall can be seen along the hike. Sleep in a guesthouse at the foot of the Wall itself.

    Hiking along the wall from Gubeikou to Jinshanling. The Wall starts to get more well maintained here, and walking becomes easier along the way. Walk through this rolling landscape and see the watchtowers that disappear over the horizon.

    Approximate hiking distance: 12.5km/7.7 mi
    Highest altitude - 670m/2,198 ft (Dinner,Lunch,Breakfast)

  • DAY 7 Jinshanling/Simatai Changcheng

    Enjoy another morning tai chi lesson and get ready for the hike. Continue along the Wall towards Beijing. The Wall is better restored here, but the trek is no less spectacular. Spend the night in a guesthouse.

    Great Wall Trek: Jinshanling to Simatai (Gubeikou 5-8km)
    Enjoy another day of hiking. Along the way from Jinshanling to Simatai, the watchtowers get closer together, and the Wall is in its best state of repair. These watchtowers were used to store weapons and to keep an eye out for invading enemy forces, as this was getting closer to the middle of the Chinese empire.

  • DAY 8 Simatai Changcheng/Beijing

    Enjoy the last day trekking along the Wall at Huangyaguan, named for the bright yellow flowers that appear in this region.

    Great Wall Trek (Huangyaguan - Jixian 4km)
    Walk through the ascents and descents on the Great Wall from Huangyaguan. Continue along the last section of the trek as the countryside all around ebbs and flows and the terrain on the Wall becomes more solid again.

    Qing Tombs Exploration (Huangyaguan Afternoon)
    This mausoleum complex measures over 80sq km (31 sq mi) and is the best preserved mausoleum complex in the country. Five emperors, 15 empresses, 3 princes, 2 princesses, and 136 concubines (!) are buried here.

    Local bus (Simatai - Beijing)
    Climb aboard, grab a seat, and enjoy the ride. (Breakfast)

  • DAY 9 Beijing

    Enjoy a free day to relax in Beijing or to explore more of the sights of the city.

    Today is free to explore Beijing. Take a tour of the ancient hutongs (alleyways) in Beijing's Old City. Other options include the Summer Palace or a visit to a Tibetan monastery.

    Enjoy a free day to relax in Beijing or opt to explore more of the sights of the city.

    Lama Temple Visit
    (Beijing2h-4h)

    Tour Lama Temple, or Yonghe Temple as its formally known, to learn more about the history of Buddhism in Beijing. The temple is ornately decorated with impressive frescoes, arches, and intricately carved architecture. Admire some of the statues in the different pavilions and halls, then head to the Wanfu Pavilion to see the Maitreya Buddha.

    Summer Palace (Beijing)

    This UNESCO World Heritage Site consists of palaces, lakes, and gardens in Beijing and is absolutely stunning. Its main components are Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill, which is 60m (200 feet) high and has many buildings on it. Kunming Lake is actually man made, and measures 2.2sq km (1.4 sq mi). (Breakfast)
